This week, Agape takes on TXF Young Flamingoes. It will be a battle between two young teams, for Agape, a young team in terms of when it was started, for Flamingoes, a young team in terms of age. Flamingoes, though having an average age of 13.4 years old, have shown their quality in the league by beating SIM Inferno and Valtina Warriors. They have also put up a fight against the other teams who may be much older than them. In every match that they have played, they have always scored.
‘I think it’s amazing to see a young team playing so well in the league. I firmly believe that in a few years time, with good coaching, these girls can improve and become much better players. At such a young age, it takes more than skill to win teams that are older than you are. Flamingoes has indeed shown me that it’s possible to win with a young team.’
‘This Sunday, we will play the game with much respect for Flamingoes, but we will still want to win the game...
Updates... Div 2 vs Blacks 15: 3-8 Player-of the-Match - Young Flamingoes Flamingoes put up another brilliant display. A collective effort against one of the best teams in the league. We defended as a team and were able to halt the attacks time and again. After going down 0-2 in the first few minutes of the 1st period, the girls came back strong and equalised through Wanne and Shanice before Wanne scored another goal to give us the lead. Blacks equalised seconds before the end of period. 2nd period saw both teams trying to look for the elusive goal but the defence did their job well. 2nd priod ended goalless. The third period saw the collapse of the Young Flamingoes as most of the players were running low on energy. Nonetheless, the Flamingoes have proved that we are capable of matching even the best teams in the league even though we are a very young team. We were able to take the bumps and shoves in our stride. Heads up flamingoes, we can only get better!!! Div 2 vs RP Adroits : 4-14 Player-of the-Match - Eqah Over the course of the game I'm disappointed with the result, but not with the performance. The players were absolutely fantastic. This is one of our better performance as a team. We pressed, we got the goal we deserved, but they're a very, very good team and we're not going to hold them for the whole game. Several players deserved special mention. Eqah was outstanding and consistent throughout the game. She made her presence felt with great defending and was a key figure in launching our attacks. Fizah was instrumental in keeping the shape of the line. Covering for the centre as and when necessary and pulling the strings for her line. Shanice was tireless, covering every inch of the court with her determination and aggression. Adding the necessary urgency to the attack. As for line 2, Gigi and Ying Rui were marvellous. The defensive pair were able to stop Adroits invasion with timely interceptions and tackles. Ili provided great cover for the defence and was a reliable link between defence and attack. Sarah was full of running, causing trouble for Adroits' defence and her efforts was rewarded with 2 goals. She was also helping out in defence as well. Nani did pretty well even though her hand was hurt due to a slash in the earlier part of the game. Div 2 vs Panthera: 2-6 Player-of the-Match - Ili Huda Pantheras edged out the Flamingoes 6 - 2 in a fast-paced game that was chockful with excitement all 3 periods. The score did not really reflect the true reflection of how the game went. It was end-to-end action all the way. We were able to string passes together and matched them defensively as well. Lapse in concentration during free hits cost us the game. Nonetheless, the girls did really well and was rewarded with a goal from beautifully worked move involving Fizah, Natasha and Amira. Seeing the way the girls played excites me. They have potential to go far in the game. With an average age of 13.4 years, these girls were able to match teams at least 5 years their senior. Imagine what they will do in 5 years time... Div 2 vs NTU Storm: 1-4 Player-of the-Match - Ameera The young Flamingos suffered another defeat. The first period ended goaless as both teams were trying to size each other up. We had our share of chances but were not able to convert them. Our defence held their attack well but were giving away too many free hits easily. Second period saw us taking the lead through a quick counter attack spearheaded by Shanice. Fizah and Ameera assisted well by pulling away their defenders. THey equalised early in the 3rd period through their powerplay. We went downhill from there on as the girls were too tired. As we had only 10 players, the girls were too tired to match the Storm in the 3rd period. I urged the rest of the Team to turn up for the games and show commitment to the team. Birds of a feather, should flock together.... 06/09 Div 2 vs Supernova:4-5 Player-of the-Match - Eqah The young Flamingos had an off-day. We were making alot of uncharacteristic mistakes which were converted into goials by the opponet. We were not closing down on the players fast enough and the markiungwas too loose. Our players looked jaded and tired. After taking a 2 goal lead in the first period, we collapsed in the second period. The start of the third period was worst as we gave away 3 easy goals within a span of a few minutes. We picked up our game towards the end of t5hird period, pulling back 2 goals but it was enough. Maybe its the cool weather. 29/08 Div 2 vs ValtinaWarriors:5-2 Player-of the-Match - Natasha & Shanice The young Flamingos notched our second win against the Warriors today. The girls did well although the opponent tried to play the psychological card early in the game. The push and shove plus the verbal assault did not affect the girls. We were able to play our floorball despite all those distractions. I feel, that was what won us the game. True to our Motto - Respect All, Fear None, the girls were focus on the task at hand. They were fantastic. Defensively, we were very compact and solid, limiting their shots at goal with great positioning and tight marking. A tremendous improvement by the girls in this area, though we tend to panic when there's a goalmouth scramble which resulted in the 2 goals conceded. Offensively, the centres and defenders are providing more support to our forwards, opening up more options during attack. We are also taking more shots at goal. To add to that, BOTH our GK put up an excellent display. Their bravery, coupled with great reflexes and excellent reading, foiled the Warriors attempt at goal time and again. They came up tops in a few 1-on-1 situation and were a GIANT obstacle that the Warriors found hard to break...Kudos to our GK... Div 2 vs SIM Inferno:4-1 Player-of the-Match - Fyzah I'm very proud of the girls for their display this week. They overcame obstacles and challenges to earn the first points for the Young Flamingoes. Even though majority of the players are fasting, the work together and truly deserve this win. The line 1 got the game started perfectly. Fizah played a captain's role to a tee by leading the frontline while Eqah was busy keeping the defence tidy and stable. Natasha was oustanding and instrumental, working tirelessly to compensate for the teammates who are fasting. The line had plenty of shots at goal and was controlling the game comfortably. Line 2 and Line 3 kept up the momentum and continued the pressure on SIM. Ameera from Line 3 was always a constant menace to Inferno's defence. Twisting and turning their defence and raining plenty of shots at goal. Shanice and Fitria provided support during attack and were ever dependable in defence. Gigi provided cover in defence and was keeping Inferno's attack at bay. Line 2 played a full court pressure and the forwards, Charel and Vannessa, were taking shots from every angle. Ili, Sintia and Ying Rui were quick to pick up the loose balls and were very effective in snuffing Inferno's attack and launched quick counters. Fizah opened the scoring in the first period after receiving a beautiful cross court pass from Idah. The goal was long overdue as Fizah had been busy taking shots from the first whistle on. Ameera scored a wonderful individual goal. She shrugged off her marker and created an opening for herself before taking a shot to the top corner of the goal. Inferno pulled a goal back in period 2 when our defence panicked and tried to make a clearance in the goal area. The clearance was intercepted and a goal was scored. In period 3, Fitria scored a opportunist goal, taking advantage of a poor clearance and taking a quick shot from the slot area. To wrap up the game, Shanice scored a wonderful goal during Inferno's powerplay. I take my hats off to the girls for their persistence, determination and resilience. I respect you. Fly birds Fly. 15/08 Div 2 vs Armadas:2-6 Player-of the-Match - Charel The young flamingos were out-muscled by the physical play of Team Armadas. The start of the 1st period saw the flamingos being pinned down at our own half of the court as the girls tried to find an answer to the physical style of the opponent. We conceded 2 early goals as we were unable to settle down and composed ourselves. We were losing the ball to easily. We took control in period 2 with a better passing game but were unable to convert the chances into goals. Charel also missed a penalty. Period 3 saw the flamingos going all out to get the goals and were caught on the counter-attacks. All in all, I'm happy with the girls' performance as they really gave their all and played to instructions. Unfortunately, we made several errors in defence and were punished. We need to look into our marking in the goal and slot zones and to get more shots in from distance. Well Done Girls!!!
10/08
Friendly vs Panthera:1-5
Player-of the-Match - Nani
The young flamingos had a good outing playing against the well organised Panthera. The girls opened the scoring first with a well-worked move involving Wanne and Ameera. The girls continued to create chances but were unable to convert the chances. Panthera stepped up their attack and scored 3 goals due to lapses in defence. Our marking in the goal and slot area needed some work. On the other hand, the 4 forward pairs were able to show good understanding among themselves but were not sharp enough infront of goal. We need to work on our rebounds and eliminate ball-watching in front of goal.
The girls put on a better display in the 2nd and 3rd periods, holding the Panthera to only 1 goal each. We can hold our heads up high with our display. We stepped into the game, knowing that the opponents were older, bigger, taller and more experienced, and matched them all the way. With more games to come against quality opponents, No matter the results, I can only see our girls getting better. Kudos to the Young Flamingos...
RESPECT ALL, FEAR NONE...FLY BIRDS FLY
05/08 Countdown to Div 2. (Note to Players)
As the league draws nearer, I’m excited to see how our girls perform against much bigger and older opponents and how far we can go in the league. I hope to see our girls putting into place what we've trained so far and to have the desire and drive in every match. As what is penned on our jersey, our Motto of RESPECT ALL, FEAR NONE, is exactly what I want the girls to display. Ultimately to take the wins and loses with grace and pride. TRUE SPORTSMANSHIP. Still, I do hope to have a decent finishing in the league. Since this is our maiden season, our aim of scoring at least 5 points still remains.
We had some valueable learning experience, having had the priviledged of playing friendlies with some or the teams. But the results during the friendly matches does not matter, as we step into every game on level playing field with the score at 0-0. Our opponents would have definitely trained hard and have improved, so we would approach each game with respect that they deserve. We will still give our 100% into every game, every minute, every second. The players have improved and I’m waiting to see them in action on court.
RESPECT ALL, FEAR NONE...FLY BIRDS FLY

Friendly vs Springfield Ewoks:11-1
Player-of the-Match - Eqah
A fairly easy game for the flamingoes. THe first period was shabby as the we were unsettled by the Ewoks style of play. The first period ends with the Flamingos leading 1-0. We took control from period 2 and totally dominated the match. All in all, an easy outing for the girls.
26/07
Friendly vs Team Armada :5 - 3
(Goals scored by: Ameera assisted by Wanne, Charel unassisted, Charel assisted by Vannessa, Amira assisted by Charel, Shanice unassisted)
Player-of the-Match - Fitria
The young flamingoes had our first game today. A friendly match against Team Armadas at Singpore polytechnic would be first time these group of girls played competitively together as flamingoes.
Some of the girls were slightly intimidated by the sheer size of the opponents. The face-off went their way and they had the first attack of the game. Our girls re-gain composure and from there on controlled the tempo of the game. Quick passes and plenty of off-the-ball running resulted in the flamingoes scoring 2 goals in the first period. Ameera scored the opening goal with wanne assisting. Charel then scored an individual goal from a beautiful spin from the left. Armadas tried to counter our play with physical and aggrasive plays. But our girls stood strong and are able to match their physical style of play. First Period: Flamingoes 2, Armada Nil.
Second period saw our girls continue controlling the game. Charel scored her second goal with assistance from Vannessa. Armada continued with their physical play, bumping and shoving our girls along the way. Amira then got her name on the score sheet by scoring a goal off a pass from Charel. Late in the period, Armada pulled 2 goals back as we were caught napping in defence. Second Period: Flamingoes 4, Armada 2.
Thrid Period started with our girls determined to get our first win. The girls slowed down the game, forcing Armada to play to our tempo. The girls were playing perfectly to the tactics. Shanice scored off a free hit midway through the game only for Armada to pull a goal back immediately after the face off ( I supposed our girls were still celebrating the goal). All in all, the Flamingoes played a marvellous game, controlling the play with continuos running to which the opponent were not able to keep up. The girls did well in following the instructions and keeping to the game plan. WElLL DONE FLAMINGOES....
